Plan of Work: Improving Our Environment

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The effects of natural disasters can be seen for many years and can cause problems for many years if corrective actions are not taken. Soon after the December 10, 2021 tornado, this agent worked with the Muhlenberg County Property Valuation Administrator to determine the extent of debris in the Pond River. The company that the Property Valuation Administration office utilizes to collect county aerial imagery had flown the county on December 12, 2021 thus allowing for up to date imagery. That imagery was utilized by this agent to assist the USDA Natural Resources and Conservation Services and the Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court in obtaining a grant for nearly one million dollars to remove debris from the Pond River and other tributaries affected by the tornado. The tributaries have been remediated resulting in normal water flow and no flooding in those areas. Remediation of the Pond River will begin in the Spring of 2023. This collaborative effort made a difference to Muhlenberg County citizens.
