Major Program: Build Engaged and Empowered Communities – General

Plan of Work: Build Engaged and Empowered Communities

Outcome: Initial Outcome

FCS agent Maranda Brooks had a vision, developed, and implemented a program during Black History Month on February 9th, 2023 highlighting the work of Black Agricultural, Food, and Family Resources in Extension from past, present and future. 6 community partners (Anthem Medicaid, Oak Street Healthcare, Foodchain, Tammy's Tasty Treats, Aunt Peaches Catering, Two Blondes and Balloons) helped me successfully provide a night full of Black History decorations, opening remarks from Black extension past and present staff, Black owned local catered meal, food demo and desserts, and entertainment from UK Black Gospel Group. 37 attended this program. Of the 37 attendees present, all attendees vocalized the desire to have a program “first of its kind here in the Extension office” to be implemented as an annual event and over 80% voiced the appreciation of learning about Black History within extension. 80% were encouraged to buy local produce and contributing to supporting Black owned business.
