Grain Crop Short Course

Author: Jessica James

Planning Unit: Henderson County CES

Major Program: Grains

Plan of Work: Agricultural Practices

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

For the Grain Crop Short Course, I partnered with Katie Hughes in Union County. This way, we could reach more producers by combining the two counties. This was a 4 week program and only on Tuesdays. The first two Tuesdays were at the Union County Extension Office and the last two were at the Henderson County Extension Office. We had good attendance at all meetings. The first meeting was Jan. 10th and the topics were Grain Drying and Storage. The other topic was Grain Hauling and Mobile Apps. The second meeting was on Jan. 17th and the topics were Corn Diseases and Weed Control Lessons and Preparation for Next Crop Season. There were CEU's offered this night for anyone needing those. The third meeting was Jan. 24th and the topics covered were Soybean Diseases and any Currently Relevant Topics. The 4th night was on Jan. 31st and the topics covered were Soil Fertility and we also had Dicamba Training. If producers attended at least 3 out of the 4 meetings, they got their private applicator card updated. We had them fill out surveys at the last nights meeting to see how they thought it went and to see how we could improve for next time. The responses were very good and we had a comment saying that we should make this program an annual event. Overall, we were very happy with how this program went.
