Planning Unit: Wolfe County CES
Major Program: Substance Use and Mental Health – 4-H Youth Development
Plan of Work: Developing Leadership, Citizenship, Health, & Life Skills Among Youth
Outcome: Initial Outcome
For 4th and 5th graders in Wolfe County schools, they look forward to experiencing sessions taught with Health Rocks. This program utilizes our Teen Leadership ambassadors to teach the session to the elementary school. For our students they receive 8 hours of education through this program concentrated on drug, tobacco and alcohol, and vape prevention. For our area, drug, tobacco, alcohol and vape usage has been problem that has plagued our community for a long time. Through this program we are hoping to educate the youth early and make a lasting impression on their life. Additionally hoping that they take the current information they are learning and take that home to share with their families with another hope that those families change their current behaviors. Lastly, we are creating leadership opportunities for our teens so that they advocate for a healthy lifestyle while maintaining a drug, tobacco, alcohol and vape free lifestyle. We want them to be leaders and role models for younger youth in our communities. We have saw positive survey results and at the conclusion of the program 100% of the 4th and 5th graders pledged to be drug, tobacco, alcohol and vape free!
We partner with Family Resource Youth Service Centers to provide this opportunity. A few comments about this program include:
“I love Health Rocks because it promotes positive interaction with students and teen leaders that leaves a lasting impression of a drug free life! -BD
