Kentucky 4-H Summit is so important to middle school aged youth. 4-H Summit helps to develop young leaders in our counties that become the leaders of tomorrow for the State of Kentucky and the Nation. 4-H maybe the start of a middle 4-her's career in Leadership, Communications, Community Development and so much more in life. The amount of knowledge that middle school youth gain from 4-H Summit and brought back to the home county is priceless. In 2018, 34 counties from across Kentucky participated in Kentucky 4-H Summit session 2. This is a state -wide event that attracted 144 middle school youth, 25 teen volunteers, and 6 adult volunteers.  Letcher County was fortunate enough to bring 4 middle school youth to 4-H Summit ages 11, 12, & 13. Three of those youth have already said that for 2019 they want to go back to 4-H Summit and that we need to recruit more middle youth to attend. Letcher County also had 2 State Teen Council Members that attended 4-H Teen Summit. The 4 middle- school youth that attended from Letcher County said that they felt accepted by team leaders, made a connection with the team members, improves community development skills, improved leadership skills, and improved team building skills. Youth said they could lead a leadership activity in 4-H or other community organization. Youth also said that they could lead a communication activity in 4-H or other organization in the community. Last youth stated that they would feel comfortable in leading a group discussion in 4-H or in the community or another organization. When the youth where choosing a workshop or fun-shop I ask them to think about classes that would be beneficial to them and to the county. I wanted them to be able to bring something back that they could teach to other middle-school youth. After 4-H Summit was over I ask youth why they took the classes they did and they said they wanted to improve their leadership skills.
