Planning Unit: Livingston County CES

Major Program: Natural Resources

Plan of Work: Grain marketing, environmental sustainability, and natural resources.

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Each year in Livingston County, we participate in a multi-county competition sponsored by our regional recycling center. We take the time to teach about the power of recycling and the importance of mindfulness about our environment, the students have the opportunity to take what they learned and channel their creativity into a “Trash Sculpture”. 35 Livingston County Elementary, Middle, and High School Students competed. Those who won their school contest moved on to compete in our county competition, and then on to the area competition. One student won 1st place at every event and was awarded $260.00 in prize money. Another student, attached an essay to his sculpture of a working globe decorated with trash that was titled, “God’s Creation, Help Us Keep It Beautiful” he shared the importance of recycling, and reference the time spent in our classroom club as being the first time he’d had to think about the world around him and sparked his passion toward making a statement with his project. He is excited to learn more about 4-H and continue to be involved.
