There is a need in each community to develop people to maintain a high quality of life and productivity. One component of this is allowing them to develop as leaders and educate them regarding the community in which they live. The Greenup County Extension Agent partnered with the local chamber of Commerce – Ashland Alliance Community Leadership Development Program. The program consist of seven weeks, meeting once a week covering topics that are crucial to our Tristate area which include ; Child Advocacy, Health Care in both Boyd and Greenup Counties, Government and Leadership, Industry development, Volunteerism. The Community Leadership Development program has been in existence since 1979. Goals for the program include: developing leadership skills and a better informed citizenry, providing a networking opportunity for are business people, promoting community pride and civic responsibility, fostering potential volunteers for the chamber and nonprofit agencies. There were 17 graduates from the 2023 after a brief break in the program due to COVID-19. Survey results concluded that it was a very informative program. Also several participants stated that they had lived in the area and never been to many of the places on the tours.
