Thank-you is a word that can have multiple meanings depending on the circumstances. This Agent was chased down in a grocery by a 4-H Alumni's parent to say "I have been meaning to stop by and talk to you! I want to thank-you for encouraging my daughter to stay involved in 4-H. It has made a big difference in her life. Thanks for 4-H she received a promotion at her job and now does some TV and radio interviews. The other day, we saw her on TV and my husband said "Thanks to 4-H!"
The 4-H Alumni was very, very shy and seldom spoke. She started in 4-H at the age of 9 and would hide behind her Mother or a friend when ask to participate in any 4-H event. This Agent finally convinced her to go on stage for the 4-H Fashion Revue as part of a group. She would not participate in the speech or demonstration contest until the Agent ask her to help present a 4-H Heritage Program on Mules- her favorite animal to a 6th grade class. After the presentation, you could see the confidence glowing from her as the students ask questions about the mules. Then she decided to participate in 4-H Communication Contest and actually won the State Demonstration Contest.
This Agent continued to utilize her leadership skills throughout her college career and served as a reference for her job. The "Thank-you" that the parent said was greatly appreciated but the best kind of thank-you comes from seeing our 4-H members become a contributing member of society!
