The holiday season brings joy and, with the help of the Cooperative Extension Service, education. Sixteen McCracken County 4-Hers spent a day lending Santa a hand in preparation for the 25th. They engaged in spreading cheer by baking, caroling, and crafting.
Proper food handling, measuring techniques and kitchen safety were top priorities during the McCracken County 4-H Santa’s Elves Workshop. The day could not have been possible without the help of volunteers. Two “head elves” joined the youth by providing their expertise and spent the morning creating wonderful baked goods. One student revealed she baked at home with her family and would apply skills she learned that day to her sessions at home.
Students concluded the workshop using their hands to craft ornaments following the work in the kitchen. The participants ranged from fourth to seventh grade and represented a diverse population. The day was truly a day of making spirits bright, not only by having fun, but also learning in the process.
