Greenup Old Fashion Days (OFD) is one of the longest-running community festivals in the state. Now in its 56^th year, Greenup OFD spans three days and involves thousands of people through partnerships, performances, vendors, contests, and special events. 

The OFD committee is made up of 26 community volunteers, led by co-chairs: Anne Stephens and Bambi Reed. Anne is the Greenup Extension Agent for Community Arts and Bambi is a local business owner. Under this leadership, OFD has been able to expand the educational and cultural history components that were identified as lacking by community surveys and personal interviews. As planning for the 2022 event got underway, it was decided that the goal for the year would be to increase student involvement in the festival. 

During the October 2022 event, over 500 students were in downtown Greenup for performances and field trips. The OFD Art Show was reinstated at the Greenup Library with 60 entries from students and community artists. Students experienced historic re-enactors, exhibits from the Kentucky Historic Society, a tour of murals, presentations at First & Peoples Bank, Greenup Sheriff’s office, Greenup City Police office, and a “Live Drug Free” talk by the Greenup County Attorney. The Greenup County High School Beta Club provided student field trip guides who helped lead the tours and make the days go smoothly for everyone with extra responsibilities. 

The OFD Committee voted to continue all of the additions made to the 2022 event. Planning has already started for the 2023 event with addition of new volunteers and event partners.

Tracey Baker said, “We had about 100 students from McKell eat their lunches at Greenup Christian Church on Friday. The students were very polite and cleaned up after themselves very well. Looking forward to this event next year.”
