The modern agriculture industry faces scrutiny from consumers at all stages of production. The Beef Quality Assurance certification program is a valuable resource to educate consumers on modern agricultural practices. The Beef Quality Assurance program is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that provides systematic information to U.S. beef producers and beef consumers of how common-sense husbandry techniques can be coupled with accepted scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management and environmental conditions. The eight county Jackson Purchase region hosted a Beef Quality Assurance program certification where 23 producers participated. All 23 producers successfully passed the certification course. In partnership with the Cooperative Extension Service, Kentucky Beef Integrated Resource Management, Kentucky Beef Network and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund provide metal farm signs for all certified producers. Certification programs will be held periodically, as the certification must be renewed every three years.
