Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Bracken County Family and Consumer Science Agent met with the FRYSC and the Bracken County School Counselors to partner together to host, “The Dinner Table Program”. A program for families to eat together, have fun, and grow closer through conversation.  This program had been done in the fall of 2021 and had just 3 families attend.  That program was held when COVID still had some restrictions.  Things are more open now and people are getting back to doing things we did Pre-COVID.  This program was free and offered in November 2022 at Taylor Elementary School and we had 20 families attend.  Each Family had their own table, table settings, table cloth, family goody bag, and kitchen utensils.  On the menu for the night was, “Family Charcuterie Boards”.  We felt this was a good choice due to the number of families and outlets to plug stuff in.  With the Charcuterie Board we did not need electricity.  The FCS Agent went over a brief lesson on the importance of family time and the nutritional value of different cheeses.  Each family was given a folder filled with UK Publications and Information.  The FCS Agent went over how to make a basic charcuterie board and demonstrated how to make a flower using salami and pepperoni.   This was the centerpiece of the board. Each Family came to the supply table to pick up their various ingredients, such as fruit, veggies, crackers, cheese, lunchmeat, dips, and sweet stuff.   The families set their table and worked together to put the Charcuterie Boards together and then ate together.  As a team we wanted families to know the importance of eating and working together to build better relationships.  At the end of the night all families reported they had fun, enjoyed the time spent with their children and this was all of their first time making a Charcuterie Board.  Many families said they would make this again at home.  Another session will be held in February 2023
