Planning Unit: Fleming County CES

Major Program: Leadership

Plan of Work: Developing Community Leaders

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In September of 2022, Fleming County 4-H had 5 Teen Council members attend the 4-H Multi-County Teen Retreat at North Central 4-H Camp.  The packed schedule was full of quality educational activities and events for the youth participants. Members explored various aspects of 4-H through a leadership development led by two Kentucky 4-H State Officers.  This leadership workshop was a great ice breaker and introduction to other statewide 4-H opportunities.  Each member assisted with the implementation of a service project for the benefit of North Central 4-H Camp by assisting with improvements surrounding the walking path to the canoeing and fishing locations as well as cleanup and removal of bush honeysuckle.   Members enjoyed downtime and icebreakers to get to know members from across District 1.  When asked if they gained any leadership skills 60% of the Fleming County delegates stated they felt their leadership skills improved.  100% of the Fleming County delegates stated that they made friends from another county while participating in the 4-H Teen Retreat.  In Fleming County Schools, students are required to implement a designated number of service hours annually for grade advancement, the Fleming County 4-H members appreciated the opportunity to supplement their education in this manner through the 4-H Teen Retreat.  As a result of attending the Multi-County 4-H Teen Retreat, Fleming County Teens scheduled the first 4-H Teen Council Meeting to re-start it for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
