The Taylor County 4-H horticulture team this year consisted of seven juniors and two seniors. This is the most 4-Hers Taylor County has had to participate locally and on the state level. Seven practices were held over the summer. These practices were miniature versions of the state contest, consisting of judging produce and plants along with plant identification. Two participants went above and beyond by creating their own photo study book to assist them with preparation for the contest. In addition, we had our first cloverbud to participate in the local practices to prepare her for when she can join the team in 2023. Taylor County for the first time received reserve grand champion at the state fair in the junior horticulture contest. This is the highest our juniors have ever placed in this contest with three blue ribbons and four red. Several 4-Hers showed their interest in the team during 4-H's open house. The team is eager to begin practice again for next year. The horticulture agent has been asked when practice will start again, and if we could start earlier.
