Outcome: Initial Outcome

For its 2022 season, the McCracken County 4-H Hot Shots saw a huge turnout in membership, executed a full shooting season and hosted two county benefit matches.

This year the Hot Shots were back in full force following a halt to their activities in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a late start to their 2021 season. A total of 60 youth participated in the club, and 7 certified adult coaches led them in the Shotgun, Archery, Rifle and Pistol disciplines.

Following a rocky two program years, the club was relieved to see things back to a normal time frame. Early in the year, announcements were made for youth in the county to pre-register for the club, paperwork was distributed, and the first in-person pre-season meeting was held since 2019. The club totaled 54 practice hours at the range this summer and finished its season with 7 youth competing in the Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports State Competition.

In June, for the first time since 2019, the club hosted a benefit match. A total of 167 youth participated in the match across 12 counties with the help of 16 adult volunteers and 8 certified adult coaches. The turnout proved how much events like these were missed during the time of the pandemic. The club hosted a second match in August; 105 shooters, 15 adult volunteers and 8 certified adult coaches across 10 counties participated.

The club is hopeful to continue this normal trend. Monthly off-season meetings are planned and intend to foster more belonging among its youth, coaches, and agent.
