Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Pikeville Farmers Market has been a success story for several years.  The Market was started by the Master Gardener group several years ago.  The market started in the Parking Lot by the Extension Office.  It started with 2 farmers.  Market gradually grew to fill one side of the parking lot.  then grew to cover both sides of the parking lot.  At this point the Market worked with the City of Pikeville to secure grants to build a really nice structure on some property the city owned, down next to Pikeville High School.  It has been so nice to get back to reasonably secure/safe market, free from Covid.  For 2022 vendors have grossejust under $70,000 and it has been attended by over 7,104 clientele.  Market numbers are down compared to pre-Covid, but are showing an increase over last year, with an additional $30,000 in farmer income.  The market operates, until the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

In the years, since the first grant was written, 11 brick & mortar businesses have been opened by vendors that started at the Farmers Market.  9 are still operating successful businesses.  Various grants have been taken advantage of.  Everything from structure, advertising, training, supplies, and WIC/Sr. Vouchers/Double Dollars/Health Benefits.

In 2022, 10 businesses/farms have gained the confidence to expand & participate with many of the Festivals, here in eastern Kentucky.  Which have contributed to their success.

Every single vendor has indicated plans to expand and return for 2023.
