Kids are often bored at the end of the summer and parents are looking for educational opportunities to engage them in before returning to school. Over 105 youth participated in one or more of the following six day camps offered in July and August 2022: 4-H Camp in a Day, Fashion Design, Space Exploration, Cooking, Craft and Home Environment. All day camps included a healthy snack and lunch and were provided free of charge to the community.
Activities included: learning about the moon and stars, how to complete mixed media art projects, nutrition and how to prepare an entire meal, team building by playing games, learning about the color wheel and fashion design, creating a t-dyed t-shirt and necklace, learning about space exploration and designing and constructing a claw, making crafts, going through an obstacle course, playing games and making healthy snacks. Several youth participated in 4-H during the year after being exposed to 4-H by attending the day camps.
The 4-H Camp in a Day was planned and implemented by a team of an adult volunteer and 3 teen leaders. Thirty kids were given the opportunity to experience what 4-H Camp would be like. Classes included low ropes with team building activities, survival skills about learning to make a fire, making smoothies and nutrition, harness racing and learning about horses and recreation. Parents and kids were extremely complimentary and couldn't say enough good things about this day camp.
