School Clubs Up and Going

Author: Paula Jerrell

Planning Unit: Ballard County CES

Major Program: Communications and Expressive Arts

Plan of Work: Communications

Outcome: Initial Outcome

After a few years without having 4-H School Clubs in the 4th and 5th grades, we now have them going again. Fourth grade clubs started back last year focusing on Communications.  This year we have added 5th grade clubs focusing on Communications as it relates to Leadership. The 4th grade will be required to plan, prepare and deliver a speech plus have a variety of lessons on communications. The 5th grade is incorporating civic engagement in their writing classes and having clubs in their social studies class.  We have learned about 4-H, learned some basics of parliamentary procedure,  elected officers and elected a club name. They are very excited about this year!

Every 4th and 5th grader was involved in a service project of making cards for the local nursing home. Fourth Grade made Thanksgiving cards and fifth grade made Valentine's Day cards. Officers from each grade rode with me to the nursing home to deliver the cards.
