Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Access to high quality, fresh produce is a major challenge for many that live downtown Frankfort. There are no grocery stores within 3.5 miles. The Franklin County Farmer’s Market and Franklin County Cooperative Extension Service has worked together to increase the food access to Frankfort residents, especially those on limited income.

The Farmer's Market had sales of over $548,700 from more than 50 local producer, which is 26% increase from the previous year.  We've also expanded ways for residents to shop.  The market held 63 in-person market days, an online order option for Saturday markets, 32 curbside pickup markets, weekly deliveries to 8 workplaces, and 16 income-adjusted Food Shares.  A concerted marketing effort to SNAP, WIC, and Senior FMNP, Double Dollars, Food Pantry, & Fresh Rx programs has increased participation in these programs by 56%. These programs have allowed participants to purchase more than $65,000 of additional local foods.  We've seen an increase in communtiy support with 13 local businesses and over 150 individuals donating over $15,500 towards food access programs.  A monthly Kid’s Day is also being continued with activities, live animals, and each child get $2 token to purchase fruits and vegetables.

With the closing of the small downtown grocery store, the Franklin County Farmers Market and Franklin Co Extension Service have expanded efforts to provide residents with a close, fresh, healthy food option while also supporting our local farmers.  We'll continue these efforts to better servce more residents each year.
