2022 Kentucky State Fair

Author: Dawna Peters

Planning Unit: Leslie County CES

Major Program: Community Vitality and Leadership – 4-H Youth Development

Plan of Work: Investing in Community Leaders

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

For nearly 40 years, Cloverville has been the face of Kentucky 4-H. Cloverville typically has around 6,000 4-H member exhibits from across the Commonwealth in a village like setting where 4-H’ers display their skills and compete for state-level ribbons. 67 of those exhibits came from Leslie County 4-H.

Leslie County 4-H stays busy all Summer long preparing for the Kentucky State Fair. We take pride in our Summer Day Camps which are designed to create State Fair exhibits. Summer Day camps that were offered was Beginning Cooking, Photography, State Fair art, basket weaving, needlework, Magic of Electricity, beginning sewing and food preservation.

For the first time in 3 years, we were able to load up some of our participants and head to Cloverville. It was amazing seeing our accomplishments in person and provided many ideas for next year.  We are so proud of our youth. Leslie County had 4 grand champion ribbons, 26 blue ribbons, 21 red ribbons, 15 white ribbons, and 1 green ribbon. The 2022 Kentucky State Fair was a huge success. This effort would not have been possible without youth participants, Extension staff and volunteers. We can’t wait for next year!
