Plan of Work: Improve Individual and Family Development
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
On July 18th, 2022, Powell County 4-H and the Powell County extension office hosted the 1st Cloverbud Day Camp for youth 5-8 years old in the county. In attendance were 40 youth participants, 2 teen leaders, 1 adult volunteer, and the extension office staff. Youth participants were able to participate in a variety of different events throughout the day centered around the core areas of 4-H. Some activities included learned the 4-H pledge and motto, painting and crafting, several hands-on STEM lessons, and an agriculture lesson and project. Another activity to mention was participants preparing their own healthy snack, lead by the Powell County NEP assistant. At lunch, we were able to partner with the local school's food service department, and provided a free meal through their summer feeding program for all participants.
This day gave potential new 4-Hers a chance to learn about the programs we have to offer in Powell county, as well as a chance to collaborate with peers their own age during summer break. Our teen leaders were given the opportunity to practice their leadership skills with this age group, and exceeded the county's expectations.
Following this one-day event, a Cloverbud project club was created in the county. This club meets monthly and continues to show Cloverbuds all the areas of 4-H to help them find their "spark" when they become 9, and can pick a more individualized club experience.
Powell County Cloverbud Club continues to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month, with 16-18 members in attendance.
