Although ponds are utilized for a livestock water source, there are some that want ponds for watershed purposes or specifically for recreational purposes such as fishing or swimming. A local  excavation contractor referred three clientele to this agent for technical assistance as it relates to soil type, watershed area, topography and  site location of the pond.  This agent worked with Natural Resource Conservation Service Soil; Scientist Jerry McIntosh to provide that information to the clientele. Computerized mapping was utilized initially to view topography, soil type and watershed areas of all three locations. Site visits were utilized for two of the referrals so as to obtain soil cores to confirm whether or not the  location could indeed be a suitable site and to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the selected site. Although all three sites were suitable; only two of the sites had ponds constructed. The third site proved to be too expensive for the amount of surface acres of water that would be obtained. The collaborative effort of this agent, the Natural Resources Conservation Services soil scientist, and the excavation contractor ultimately helped the client make a sound economical decision.
