Planning Unit: Lee County CES

Major Program: Arts and Community Health

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Lee and Owsley County Extension Office partnered together on a photography contest. This would be a new program for both counties and with counties still in the red zone, the agents had to get creative on how to gather interest. Agents decided the winners of the contest would be featured in the county offices’ calendars. Participants were encouraged throughout the year to take photos to gather a small portfolio of options to submit. Photography tips were posted on the offices’ Facebook pages to help increase their skill level. There were eight different educational posts made. Over 850 views were made on the posts. Advertising was done through flyers, social media, and grab n go bags.

We had a great turnout for the program with over 80 photo entries and participants ranging from 12 to 65 years of age.

The Virtual Photography Contest, allowed Extension to promote local art and artists, reach new participants, and increase access to quality arts experiences for the community at home.
