The Magoffin County Extension office co-sponsored a Farm Field Day at A & J Farm on Bear Branch in Magoffin County on September 17, 2022, from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM. There were three CAIP eligible programs provided by Licking Valley Rural Electric discussing infrastructure, Licking River Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Ralph Adams speaking about Herd Health, and Chris Adams from NRCS speaking about Water Quality, Erosion and Stack Pads. A local food truck vendor was hired to cater the meal for the event, and a local Bluegrass Band, “True Bluegrass”, provided entertainment. There were over 150 adults in attendance and over 50 children and teenagers. The farmer provided pony rides and buggy rides for the children, and the local high school’s art department had students there to do face painting and to supervise pumpkin painting. The high schools FFA department did the set-up of tables and chairs, tents, and outdoor areas, and the extension office provided registration and a gift bag for those attending. Local businesses donated a large number of door prizes that were drawn for at the end of the day. Our office was able to make many new contacts with farmers who are new in the area, giving information about the CAIP program, programs that our office offers, and mailing information to include them in future communication about upcoming events. Our SNAP Assistant prepared 150 NEP approved samples to hand out along with an accompanying recipe. The day provided our office the opportunity to meet the community and get to know new clients and visit with many that we already serve. It was truly a great day to share information and make contacts for our office.
