Outcome: Initial Outcome
The Madison County FCS Agent prepared and presented a "Leader Lesson" for the Bluegrass Area Kentucky Extension Homemaker members. This area covers Madison, Estill, Clark, Powell, Scott, Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison, and Nicholas counties. The lesson involved up to date information that is relevant to how the majority of children spend their time today and recommendations about appropriate recommendations for children regarding activities, time spent outside, and time spent with adequate down time. The lesson offered a detailed planning tool and schedule to assist homemakers with making the best use of their time that they spend with young people. The lesson helped the Bluegrass Area members to brainstorm activities that their children had not previously considered as well as provided more resources to fill any gaps the family might have had in their schedule. The homemakers completed the lesson with the knowledge and tools needed to keep children entertained for one week, as well as the ability to adapt the schedule for the future.
This lesson was presented in a digital format in each of the 9 counties in the Bluegrass Area, hosted by their perspective FCS Agent. Newer members reported that the digital format was very useful to them as it provided them with more flexibility to access the lesson in a time frame that was convenient for them. The Madison County members reported that the lesson is helpful to them because it will help to keep their grandchildren entertained and create less strain on themselves mentally and physically as they care for them. They also liked seeing the additional resources that are relevant to today as well as how resources had changed since they were raising their children. Several members reported that they were excited to try some new things with the children in their lives.
