Social Media is a very effective tool in reaching a diverse audience. Almost 2 billion people in the world use Facebook daily and YouTube has over 120 million daily active users. With that in mind, a partnership was formed between the Family and Consumer Science Agent and the Nutrition Education Program Assistant to reach a wide array of adult audiences. Each month, they would take turns leading Facebook Live demonstration of the Food and Nutrition Calendar Recipes. To reach even more individuals, the videos are available for viewing on Facebook as well as YouTube. The primary focus of the video is to show a recipe demonstration; however, many more kitchen techniques can be found within them. Measuring techniques, food safety, knife skills, nutrition, cooking tips, how to get kids involved in the kitchen, grocery store tips, and much more is discussed.

By posting the “Cooking through the Calendar” videos on Facebook and YouTube, over 1,600 individuals were reached over the last seven months. One viewer commented “Great demonstration ladies. We are definitely going to be making these this week!” Another said “Made the Zucchini and Carrot Bars today for a midday snack.  Everyone in our household gave them 2 thumbs up!  Thanks for your video.”
