Major Program: Master Gardener
Plan of Work: Home Horticulture
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Lyon County Master Gardeners have participated in the Land Between the Lakes Hummingbird Festival for four of the past six years. This collaboration with LBL staff has built a relationship with the Friends of Land Between the Lakes staff who reciprocate by speaking or having booths at Master Gardener events. Activities at the Hummingbird booth are enjoyed by young and old alike. Approximately 1,000-2,000 people attend the festival, and it is estimated that the majority stop at the booth as approximately 400 hummingbird tattoos were applied. For the past two years, the Marshall County Master Gardeners have provided half of the volunteers and the collaboration and sharing between groups has been valuable and appreciated by all. This year 14 Master Gardener volunteers planned and conducted this educational outreach program. Land Between the Lakes is a National Recreation Area that occupies one-third of Lyon County and adjoins Marshall County.
