Major Program: Tornado Response and Recovery

Plan of Work: Activating Volunteer Leaders through Extension Programs

Outcome: Initial Outcome

After the devastating tornado's that wrecked havoc across much of Kentucky in December 2021, the Hardin County Extension Office  was contacted by KY Cattlemen's Association and Kentucky Department of Agriculture Chief of Staff, and asked if our office would serve as a dropoff point for any agriculture related supplies headed to the West KY tornado relief effort. It began quickly apparent that we would be receiving lots of materials from several states.  We hurriedly blocked off our conference center to hold materials, as well as our parking areas, and secured heavy equipment to unload/load trucks and trailers of supplies.  Main items received were fencing materials, water, feed, hay, and small powered equipment.  Donations were recieved from Chicago, IL, two semi-loads of materials valued at over $12,000 from a cattlemen's association in South Carolina, $7000 in materials from a Ruritan Group in Virginia, trailer load from Maryland, supplies from Vermont, Minnesota, North Carolina, 12 tons of feed from manufacturer, Louisville Ag Club, four counties in Eastern KY, four ag supply dealers locally that collected donated supplies, along with various other individuals from several states.  Items were either picked up, shipped or delivered to Taylor, Muhlenburg, Ohio, Logan, Warren, Hopkins Counties, animal shelters, and Feeding America KY Heartland.
