On Saturday, July 9th, 2022 the Whitley County Cooperative Extension Service hosted a community Farmer Appreciation Dinner at our Extension Office in Goldbug. This project was held in conjunction with Whitley County Farm Bureau, Whitley County Cattleman's Association and Whitley County Small Farms Club. Our goal for this event was to create a welcoming environment to draw people to into our office as well as show our appreciation to all of our agriculturists and farmers in the Whitley County area.

This event was a huge a success for the entire Whitley County Extension Office and wouldn't have been possible without the helping hands of our entire staff. A grant was successfully written to fund this opportunity and was a large enough pot of money to fully fund the entire event. A dinner was provided to all of our farmers and their families at absolutely  zero cost to them. The meal was prepared by a local farmer and served by our extension office staff. Guest speakers included our Whitley County Judge Executive, Pat White and our KY Agricultural Commissioner, Ryan Quarles. Both gentleman did a wonderful job and delivered an outstanding message to the attendees. We also provided entertainment for the both the adults and children with a local bluegrass band and some giant inflatables. Also, with the help of our generous partners with the event, we were able to hand out multiple door prizes to both adults and children. These items included Top Load Washers, Fire Pits, Bicycles, Fishing Poles and Gift Cards.

This was the biggest event I have been a part of in my extension career. A total of 275 individuals were pre-registered for the Farmer Appreciation Dinner and I know we were extremely close to that number in attendance the night of the event. I couldn't be more pleased with the turnout and comments I have heard from attendees in the days following. A truly great time was had by all involved. Great Food, Great People and a Great Event! We will certainly be looking to make this an annual appreciation to the local farmers and their families for years to come.
