Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Hancock County Cooperative Extension Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program Assistant (EFNEP) partnered with True North, a rehab facility for women, to teach the Healthy Choices for Everybody program.  At the beginning of the program only 10% of the ladies said they do any type of physical activity daily.

As the program continued to meet once a week, at the end of each lesson, as a group the EFNEP and ladies discussed how to get the recommend 30 minutes of physical activity in daily.   Some of the suggestions were, walking, as simple as around their homes, riding a bike, playing with their kids outside.   EFNEP talked about spreading out the times, ten minutes morning, noon, afternoon.  EFNEP explained all the positive effects that 30 minutes of daily physical activity could have on our bodies, such as, energy boost, reduce stress, help the heart and so much more.

At the end of the Healthy Choices for Everybody program, the ladies were ready to make a change. On the end survey 80% of the ladies were meeting their goal of getting in at least 30 minutes of physical activities daily.
