Dedication of Projects at the Hopkins County Madisonville Fair

Author: Katie Mills

Planning Unit: Christian County CES

Major Program: Agriculture

Plan of Work: Improving Basic Lifeskills, Well-being, and Quality of Life

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The 2021 Hopkins County Madisonville Fair was able to have its fair rides, livestock shows and projects again for the community to enjoy even though Covid-19 was still in full force. Hopkins County Extension partners with the fair for the Home and Garden Show and the Livestock exhibits to give helping hands. The year was a success with the Hopkins County community crowding the ground to enjoy all aspects. Hopkins County 4-H was no different for people participating.

The youth brought around 200 items such as horticulture plants, food items, paintings, pictures and sewing projects to enter in the 4-H Home and Garden area at the Hopkins County Madisonville Fair. This was no different than any other year and showed that the youth were still wanting to continue on with activities that were familiar to them. This program would not be able to take place without the help of all of the volunteers that jump right in to make sure it went smoothly. The volunteers are there readily to help take entries, organize the class items, assist the judges and showcase the items. They were willing to volunteer over 20 hours for the week in the Home and Garden area and the livestock shows.

Even with the weather being warm, the youth brought their project animals to show at the Hopkins County Madisonville Fair. The time and dedication they put into their project animals is wonderful. The youth have to make sure to get up early before school to feed and then again at night, work with their animals on lead, mend them if there are injuries and make sure they are feeding them adequately to grow. The Madisonville Hopkins County Fair is a great place for youth to showcase each of their projects from arts and crafts to livestock and show how proud they are of their hard work.
