The Knott County Agricultural Natural Resource Agent assists everyone to be more productive in growing food. In 2018 the agent was called to assist with a new installed greenhouse for vegetable production at the Hindman Settlement School. Luckily with great resources from the University of Kentucky Horticulture Department, we met and came up with a plan to begin production. Assistance and resources where given by the agent and UK horticulture technician and supplies was donated from the Kentucky Horticulture Council to help retrofit the greenhouse for production that spring. The greenhouse has already produced over 10,000 pounds of produce with a market value of over $25,000.00. This spring has already been the most successful as they are seeing a positive profit margin. The agent has always been available when problems and concerns arrive to help find solutions to improve production of the greenhouse crops. The produce has been valuable to the local farmer markets and utilized in the cafeteria on their campus for summer schools and other special events
