The 2022 Wheat Field Day was held on May 10, 2022. Holding this annual event was in question following the destruction caused by the December 10, 2021 tornado. Although the wheat crop survived, the buildings, and equipment were not so fortunate. What also survived was the Wheat Science Group‘s determination to deliver a quality program in spite of having no office to work out of. In the face of these overwhelming circumstances, the Wheat Science Group delivered a quality program which included 3 stops and 9 speakers. The field day was attended by 70 people made up of growers, crop consultants, agribusiness and extension agents.
The subject matter delivered at the field day stops was very well received by those in attendance. However, it was the invaluable interaction between UK personnel and the stakeholders that this particular event offered. This face to face interaction provided an opportunity for networking which is arguably one of the most beneficial aspects of field days. But this year in particular it gave our stakeholders an opportunity to be on-site and witness the extent of the challenges we are facing building back from the storm. Their first-hand knowledge of these challenges will be vital in garnering their support for our efforts to build back and continue our research and education mission.
