Major Program: Increasing Access to Quality Arts Experiences

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In the interest of cross collaboration of colleges at the University of Kentucky, the College of Agriculture has partnered with the College of Fine Arts to extend additional arts resources and education to the citizens of our Commonwealth utilizing the UKY Cooperative Extension system. A main outcome of this partnership is the online resource housed on the CFA website as Community Outreach Resource: https://finearts.uky.edu/college-fine-arts/outreach-resources. This public link currently hosts two arts resource packets which can be utilized in classrooms, community clubs, at-home learning, and the many various other ways we learn together. The UK Art Museum Digital Learning Gallery and SOOP Opera 101: Intro to Opera activity packets are meant to expand the ways art education is delivered across all Kentucky counties to creatively support children and people of all ages.

Hard copies of each packet have also been delivered to 120 county extension offices across Kentucky to encourage implementation of the curricula that meet Kentucky Education Standards. The packets have been piloted in Pike County, Kentucky at Pike Central high School involving over 120 students. In addition to the number of students reached Dr Tim Cline, Principal stated there were, “Lots of positive feedback. And the best was hearing kids go by my office singing in their best opera voice. Our school loved this experience and look forward to more.”
