Finances can be a major life stressor that effects personal and family health and well-being. Consider the added financial stressors because of a global pandemic and it is easy to see how tensions are reaching new heights. Money Sense for Women (MSFW) is a free financial forum, offered through a partnership between the Christian County Cooperative Extension Service and other community entities. After taking 2020 off, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 14th Annual MSFW Forum was held in August with the theme: Picking Up the Pieces: Financial Recovery & Resources. During the forum 68 participants were educated on the following topics:

  • Choices: Needs vs. Wants
  • The Importance of Insurance
  • Surviving Losses-Financial Resiliency

Participants were also provided a free lunch and door prizes were given out. According to a post event evaluation, 96% felt that their knowledge on the topics presented was increased. More than 76% reported that they have attended two or more years of the forum. An overwhelming 100% of those participating in their second or greater forum stated that they have used information from previous forums to make more positive financial decisions. Several of the participants made comments that the forum was “very informative”, “enjoyable” and “the best one yet!” When asked about the value of the forum 98% of the participants stated that it should continue to be an annual event.
