Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

A valid commercial pesticide applicators license demonstrates to the state as well as citizens that the holder has the knowledge to handle and apply pesticides accurately and responsibly.  In order to maintain that license, applicators must accumulate 12 continuing education hours in a three-year period.

For twenty plus years the Estill County Cooperative Extension Service has hosted the annual East-Central Kentucky Turf Professional Training.  The program was a valuable source of relevant, research-based education for turf and landscape professionals in the area.  In addition, the program provided continuing education units to maintain a commercial pesticide applicators license.

With the passing of Estill County Agriculture Agent, Eric Baker, green industry professionals needed a source for education and continuing education units.  The Powell County Agriculture Agent developed a program to continue the tradition in the area.

Specialists from UK provided education on emerging turf pests, diseases of ornamental pests, invasive weed control and updates to the pesticide license program.

The program was attended by twenty-eight industry professionals.  One business owner commented, “Thank you for continuing this training, I depend on this to keep my whole crew trained and maintain our licenses.”
