The Farmer/Banker Field Day is an annual tradition in Powell County dating back to 1981. Part agricultural field day, part community celebration, the event is beloved in the county.
The program is truly a community partnership. Darrell Billings graciously hosted at Tanner Time farm. Whitaker bank provided financial support as well operated the food line. Thirteen local businesses donated items for a raffle drawing. The program provided not only ag education, but also awareness to a variety of resources available in the county.
Specialist from UK and KSU provided education with plots set up across the farm on hay testing, farm pond maintenance and pasture weed control. In addition to Ag education, all departments of the Extension Office were represented, 4-H and Snap Ed partnered for a Farm to table activity for kids and FCS handed out recipes, calendars and publications. Conservation district, Clark energy, FFA and the Powell County Livestock Producers also contributed to make the program a success.
With the 2020 Field Day cancelled, the community was excited to get out and celebrate in 2021. The program attracted 210 attendees.
