In today’s world, media outlets such as radio, podcast and, social media are one of the best ways to get information out into the public eye. With these media sources you can be creative and really accomplish your goals and reach many more people than traditional advertising methods. In Allen County we are lucky to have a local radio station that supports our efforts as extension professionals and the mission that we strive for.
With the support of the local radio station and enthusiasm of agents, Growing Farms and Families radio show and podcast was created. The weekly radio show is aired at 7:35 a.m. every Wednesday morning on 99.3 WVLE in Scottsville. This broadcast reaches approximately 10,000 listeners. Not only does the radio show air on Wednesday mornings but there is also a 30 second clip played all throughout the week promoting the radio show. The Growing Farms and Families Podcast has been a game changer also. New episodes of the podcast release 2 time per month and has the capability of reaching individuals worldwide. The podcast episodes are also shared on Allen County Extension face book pages for more advertising.
With these new methods of extending our research based information to stakeholders in Allen County and all across the world, we can honestly say that we are doing our very best work and providing people with important information that they otherwise wouldn’t receive. Reaching over 120,000 annually with the radio show and reaching thousands of people annually with the growing podcast, the sky is the limit to the people we can reach and the lives we can change.
