“Recordkeeping is a key component of proper data management.  When data are recorded accurately, consistently, and carefully the ability to review analyze, and test the data is greatly enhanced.  …captured in a paper notebook, spreadsheets, or electronic data…, there should be a consistent approach…” Responsible Conduct of Research and Scholarly Activity 2022.

Writing and maintaining a record book is a basic tenet of 4-H programs.  4-H record books explain parameters of each individual project and a 4-H story relates experiences which helped an individual recognize their personal growth.

www.businessinsider.com reported in February 2022 that … writing and recording positive events are crucial to increasing well-being and positive outcome measures, like work performance.

Reinforcing the opportunity for youth 4-H members to record and submit record books occurs for all Kenton 4-H members prior to the county fair.  Record books are required for participation in the 4-H events.  In 2022, 89 different record books were submitted for judging. Junior and Senior 4-H members were represented.  The process of learning to complete data collection and complete a process by interpreting data and recording positive outcomes is verifiable as indicated in the research cited above.  Using action verbs to describe leadership or starting something new is also verifiable.   Different streams of business, industry, and research validate the importance of the 4-H record book process.
