Bingocize is an evidence based program that last for 10 weeks in which participants meet twice a week. During the meeting they will utilize the game of BINGO while incorporating exercises that focused on fall prevention in older adults. During each sessions the participants were given a resistance band, stress ball and bingo cards. The pattern would go as three rounds of bingo would be called, participants would then engage in a round of exercises and then return back to the game. The program has been proven to improve lower and upper body strength, balance and range of motion, improved aspects of cognition, increased social engagement, and improved knowledge of falls risk reduction.
Laurel County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent offered the Bingocize program at the Laurel County office with a total of 12 participants. 100% of the participants showed an improvement to balance and strength by the completion of the program. The participants also stated that they felt they were more confident in preparing their homes for fall prevention, along with being more aware of what to do if they were to fall. Several participants stated that they wanted to continue the program in the fall and focus on physical activity.
