Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The COVID-19 pandemic affected schools’ abilities to take field trips to the Campbell County Environmental Education Center. Now that society is returning to our new normal, school are utilizing the center for field trips conducted by the County Extension Agent for Natural Resources and Environmental Management. A Reiley Elementary School teacher (Alexandria, KY) commented, “Students need real world experiences, and this field trip fits perfectly. Our students haven’t been on a field trip since 2019, so this was all very exciting.”  480 students participated in fall field trips held at the Center in September and October 2021. 568 students participated in spring field trips held in May and June 2022. In total, 14 schools with 1048 students came to the Center for environmental education field trips this school year. Students learned about plant and animal structures and functions, interdependency in ecosystem, and renewable natural resources like solar energy. A St. Therese School teacher (Southgate, KY) confirmed, “I felt that all the lessons aligned with the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) that our school goes by.”  “This trip allowed students an experience they would not have otherwise had at school.” – Grant’s Lick Elementary School teacher (Grant’s Lick, KY). A Cline Elementary School teacher (Cold Spring, KY) said, “This experience allows students to be out in nature with hands-on opportunities to learn more about the world around them. It allows them to see other career opportunities.” “It makes them (students) aware of their environment and the need to protect it.” – St. Catherine School teacher (Ft. Thomas, KY).
