Outcome: Initial Outcome

Each generation is significantly different from those that preceded and followed.  By gaining a better understanding of the values that have shaped each generation, we increase our opportunities for building strong family, work and community relationships.  The Louisville Area Homemakers chose “Understanding Generational Differences” as an area leader lesson because they understood the need for this information.  The Shelby County Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent developed the power point to accompany this lesson and presented the information to a total of 70 people in 10 presentations.

Forty-nine end of session completed evaluations revealed the following.  86% increased their knowledge of recognizing and distinguishing between six different generation’s characteristics and values.  88% were better able to analyze how changes and events in society have influenced generational perspectives.  84% could better examine how generational values are reflected in family, work and social behaviors.  All the participants felt they could use the ideas and skill learned during the lesson.  One participant said this “made me think about the differences in our generations and how that has caused each generation to value what they do.”
