Finding new ways to reach new Extension clients is always a struggle for agents.  Answering the question, “where do folks get their information?” is a tough one.  In 2016 Extension agents began a daily radio show on WGGC.  WGGC is a 100,000-watt FM radio station in Bowling Green, KY.   The show airs each weekday morning at 5:00AM and is the start of the station’s daily programming.  The Get the Scoop radio show has gained in popularity with listeners and advertisers.  The team of Kristin Hildabrand and Chris Schalk bring a daily dose of research-based information, as well as information on upcoming programs and community happenings.

WGGC is arguably the most popular radio station in South Central Kentucky and North Central Tennessee.   Listeners have been documented over 100 miles aways from the station’s home in Bowling Green.  Both Hildabrand and Schalk have regularly received follow-up calls from clients after information was presented on the air.

Each Friday on Get the Scoop a recipe is featured.  These recipes are from agriculture commodity groups, or the University of Kentucky Plate it Up or Cook Wild groups.  The recipes are then posted to the Get the Scoop radio show Facebook page.  The recipes are a way to promote local food, farmer’s markets, and recognize national awareness months (i.e. June Dairy Month).

Get the Scoop also promotes events such as county fairs, farmer’s markets, the KY State Fair, North American Livestock Exposition, and the National Farm Machinery Show.  Get the Scoop also give agriculture friendly gift giving ideas for various holidays like Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother’s Day.

Get the Scoop is an award-winning program Hildabrand and Schalk have been recognized by both the Kentucky Association of County Agriculture Agents and National Association of County Agriculture Agents.
