Success story on help and collaboration of the Lyon County Cooperative Extension Program toward the Entomology Program after the 2021 Tornado Disaster

Planning Unit: Entomology
Major Program: Tornado Response and Recovery
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
The entomology program at the UK-REC at Princeton was totally interrupted due to a tornado that destroyed our facilities, equipment, vehicles, and machineries last December. After looking for a place to work in Princeton and nearby towns, the ANR-CEA Susan Fox and the Lyon County District Board offered a temperature-controlled garage in the Lyon County Cooperative District Offices in March. There the entomology program was set up placing working stations with stereoscope, and computers. This space allowed us to restart somehow our programs; field samples processed, a mite colony was initiated, and insect colonies reared, and work with slugs and snails started to support field crop and hemp farmers. It was necessary to restock our laboratory supplies and equipment, which was possible to the unconditional help from the Lyon Co. Cooperative Extension personnel (Olivia Jones, Miranda Flynn, Angie York, and Mary Beth Riley), everyone eased our work during the three months we worked there.
