Sheep and Goat Association – Meetings

The Marion County Cooperative Extension office has been a vital part in years past helping with the Central KY Sheep and Goat Producers. Once Covid-19 became widespread and programming in person stopped, our group no longer met. Our office then went through a change of Ag Agents. In between Covid-19 and changing office dynamics, we did not have regular meetings.

It is my goal to get our Sheep and Goat Producer club meeting on a regular basis and build back our membership. I also want to have a rotating offer selection for the club so that it is fair. So far, we have met 4 times and have gained 8 members. I am hopeful our membership will continue to grow by advertising for the club, having guest speakers and hosting a small ruminant school. To get more members to participate, I have coordinated guest speakers to attend our meetings. I am happy with this progress so far and am looking forward to continue to grow this club.

I have advertised for several weeks through social media, radio, word of mouth and posting flyers in different county offices about joining the club and attending meetings. I have also had the club re-instated and made legal with the state of Kentucky and caught paperwork up to date.

Our current membership is 8 white, 4 female and 4 male. A short-term goal is to gain membership from surrounding counties and grow to 15 members to start out with. I am attending the Marion County Fair Sheep and Goat show to meet one on one with producers to meet them and get them interested in joining.
