Plan of Work: Strengthening Families & Enhancing Lifestyle Choices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Clinton County Cooperative Extension Service sponsored a Community Baby Shower for 67 pregnant women and parents of infants up to age three months. 24 community partners participated in the event as well. The goal of the Community Baby Shower was to provide information to families on child health and developmental needs as well as connecting families to appropriate services. Participants interacted with guest speakers on topics such as safe sleep, healthy pregnancy, basic and infant CPR, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children (WIC), and breastfeeding. HOSA Future Health Professional students facilitated hands-on CPR practice with participants. Nine vendors ranging from insurance, adult education, Kentucky Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS), and more shared information with participants as well. Evaluation results indicated that participants planned to seek consultation from breastfeeding consultants, apply for HANDS, stay in contact with WIC, read more to baby, and engage with community resources as a result of the event. Regular programming and building relationships with families will enhance future kindergarten readiness.
