Extension Homemaker Leadership

Planning Unit: Pendleton County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Promoting Life skills

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Community service projects and educational leadership by Extension Homemaker members have a major impact in Pendleton County. Extension Homemakers learn leadership skills then use those skills volunteering in the community. In the past several years, volunteer service hours were valued now at $29.75 per hour. Pendleton County Extension Homemakers reported over 100,000  hours in Extension service, civic, church, school, and other organizations providing the community over the past two years even under COVID restrictions.  This provided our community with over 2 million dollars in intangible revenue. Our volunteer hours actually increased during these unique and difficult times.   Volunteer services included mask making, foodbank collecting and help distributing, tutoring, care giving, nursing home projects and more.  Several homemakers held an office in state, county, area and/or club level. 43 reported holding office in other groups using leadership training gained through Extension training. Leaders involved in county support eight local clubs and several community service projects. Extension programs challenge people to get involved in local issues, to become community leaders and contribute to the social and economic welfare of the community. Extension Homemakers have demonstrated this through their volunteerism.  Example of their community involvement was recognized by our Chamber of Commerce.
