In 2020 Kentucky Public Health reported over 500 youth were killed in 2018 related to Farm and Environmental accidents. Our goal is to bring awareness and educate our youth on farm and environmental safety.

On April 28, 2022 Metcalfe County 4-H, FFA, Progressive Agriculture and Metcalfe County Public Schools hosted an all day Farm Safety Day at a local farm in Metcalfe County.  The safety day covered both environmental safety and farm safety. We were able to reach over 397 middle school students. We were fortunate enough to have over 30 local businesses and 109 volunteers from our area set up booths for students to visit, see demonstrations and ask questions on various safety concerns. Some areas of training provided were fire safety, horse safety, livestock safety, ATV safety, tractor and PTO safety, farm machinery safety, logging safety, poison control safety, mental health safety, chemical safety, electrical line safety and fishing safety.

During the event each child was given an exam to fill out about things they learned at each station. At the conclusion of the event kids were given a survey. 94% of the kids stated they learned something new about environmental and farm safety at the event. 97% reported they would use what they learned at home and on the farm. 98% said they would share what they learned with family members.
