Agent hosted a UK summer Extension Intern, who developed and conducted the Drone Field Day.
Agent contacted by a former District Board member, who is also a Lt. Colonel in the US Army, about a program the military is interested in providing to personnel prior to retirement in order to transition them into civilian life. The program is entitled Army Career Skills Program Individual Internship, and is available to any Army personnel for a designated time period prior to their retirement. Individual remains employed by the Army, and they report to their assigned work station (Extension Office), and work a forty hour week. Jose Falcon, a previous District Board member, was the first one to approach us on this new program being offered, agents discussed and agreed to participate. Agent was host, he began his internship in December and finished prior to his retirement on April 1st. He was placed in charge of organizing our Ag tornado relief supply program, as well as doing other jobs around the office as needed. We were approached by another retiring soldier about a possible internship, which has been granted by the Army and he'll begin his internship in May and finish toward the end of the year. This individual is actually interested in working in Extension upon his full retirement.
The Army expects these individuals to be exposed to and develop the following through this internship program: Planning and organizing, ability to travel to sites outside the office, written and oral communication skills, teaching and presentation skills. Recruitment and marketing skills, confidentiality, attention to detail, ability to work with and value a wide range of personalities. Written and oral communication skills, dependability, courteous and responsive to the public, social media skills. Initiative, leadership abilities, able to easily meet people and form relationships, open and honest communication skills, team player. Detail orientated, ability to meet the public, good relationships with specialists, good communications skills. Supervision & coaching skills. Leadership Management Skills.
