The abrupt nature of the 2020 Covid shutdown affected all civic groups and organization. Long established traditions in communities across America came to a halt. After nearly two years of caution, the uncertainty of covid-restrictions, and inactivity the leadership of the Stockman’s Association (local affiliate of KY Cattleman’s Assoc.) decided it was time to get back to their work of promoting the livestock industry. An in person board meeting was held, in February 2022, at the extension office. The group discussed plans for the future of the association and decided to use the opportunity discuss priorities and consider new opportunities to help Stockman’s Association members. The annual membership meeting in March featured a sponsored meal, a great program on feeding efficiency, and a lot of discussion on activities that farmers would like to see offered here. Several members reported to me that the speaker provided information they would use in feeding their cattle this spring. There will be a Stockman’s sponsored forage quality contest this summer. The county Young Farmer Advisor volunteered to collect the forage samples. There will also be a junior Stockman’s Association board developed that will provide input on things that younger livestock producers are interested in. The Stockman’s Association will also work on producing a livestock farmer directory that will serve as a resource for our producers. New Leadership was elected, and plans for a field day on heifer development are being made. The heifer program will be held on the farm of one of the board members.
